On Starsector's side, the combat is amazing and wrecks EV Nova in scale, spectacle, tactical options, AI skill, and balance(*cough* ion cannons and railguns. Also outside of battles the game is a little too point and click for my taste - but of course, that is how it should be really with such big fleets, and it doesn't really make the game worse. Well either way, Starsector is better in many ways and worse in others - I like the Escape Velocity worlds better, especially the EV Nova one (though I understand that Starsector's isn't fleshed out because it's in alpha) and starsector currently has no storyline, which was my favorite part of EV Nova, so Escape Velocity has it beat there currently. It's true that the game never "ends", but if you like space combat and trading you are missing out if you never try it.Hm, have you played EV Nova? It is much more comparable to Starsector that plain old Escape Velocity. The first few hours are like elite where you are doing manual trading, but it gets much more interesting as you get more money and better ships. But there is a lot more to do than in Elite, build stations, buy ships and hire pilots to trade for you, build fleets of ships to protect your stuff or escort you around. It does not have the trading/piracy that you would find in a more sandbox game, it more of a straight action game.Īlso check out X3, it does have a story but the main attraction is the sandbox. There is a fairly deep ship customisation & upgrade system, and you can change them around at any time. You control a small fleet of ships, and switch your control between them at any time. You start on the edge of the galaxy and have to fight your way through to the centre one system at a time, there is a story and the game ends. Space Pirates and Zombies is worth a look. Might not be exactly like EV Nova, but there are a few similarities. Want to just fund the construction of military bases and make the peasants fight, while you sip expensive wine from your merchant ship? You can do that as well. Want to beat them using cunning and hacking? You can do that. Want to fight the Dominators head on? You can do that. What you do from there on out is completely up for you. A pirate will start off in a small, but very dangerous ship with a few illegal goods in the hold etc.). A trader will start with a weak, but big ship and a lot of money and trading goods in the hold. For example, a fighter will start with a good ship, but little money. And then you're thrown into the world with your character (that you can customize. The general point of the game is: there are three different species of rogue AI robots invading and conquering the galaxy. The game has a massive cult following in Russia and other post-soviet countries, since it was originally made in Russian, though the English translation is very professional - I haven't noticed many spelling mistakes. The game is absolutely massive in scale: hundreds of quests, dozens of ships, hundreds of ship parts, upgrading, drugs, illnesses, skills, stats, great writing - it has pretty much everything. The game is, essentially: a complete universe exploration sim + turn based tactical combat + arcadey pew-pew combat minigames + real time strategy with the ability of playing one of your units like a 3rd person shooter + a text based RPG + outfitting and changing your ship and all of its parts + a merchant sim + pirate sim. Space Rangers 2: A War Apart - is the best game ever made by a Russian dev team. r/lowendgaming - Game suggestions for yesterday's hardware This includes key resellersįor more information about these rules click here This includes referral links.ĭon't enable, encourage, or link to piracy.
